Just wow. This was so informative. I'm a bit of a medical unicorn, though, when it comes to my period... So, I just turned 42, and I don't have a period. In fact, I haven't had a period in 19 years. I started when I was 16 years old, and I had a FOUR YEAR period! I bled for four years straight. I graduated high school with my period, and I went on my senior trip to Mexico with my period. I never told my mom or anyone, and I hated doctors, and honestly, I thought it was normal. So, I learned to live with constant bleeding. No pain or cramps or any other period issues. Just bleeding. When I was 20 years old, it stopped for 11 days. I freaked out cause I didn't know what was happening. I ended up getting diagnosed with something that was impossible to get as I was a virgin and I was about to take a shot of meds to treat it when it I found out my test was accidentally switched with someone else and I had a yeast infection. I got meds/steroids to help jump start it and I simply spotted randomly for about 3 years but never had a regular monthly period again. I just wore pads/tampons constantly as I never knew when I would bleed. It's amazing what you get used to and I just learned to adjust. When I was 23 I was told I had PCOS and that was the reason for my weird period issues. And at 24 my period stopped completely and during a Dr visit I found out I had type 2 diabetes so they claimed that diabetes was a reason for my issues. I also had a doctor tell me I had entered early menopause. That was interesting and not true. So I haven't had a single day of bleeding in 19 years. Funny story, after all these issues I was told having kids would be next to impossible, but when I was 31, I found out I was almost 6 months pregnant! I had no signs or symptoms of pregnancy. No sickness, cravings or weight gain... nothing. I just randomly took a test with a bf I had only been seeing for a month and bam. I was 23 weeks along. The only sort of answer I got from my doc was that even though I didn't have a physical period, my body was still acting on a cycle of sorts. But to this day, I still never got any answers as to why I bled for 4 years straight or how I really got pregnant or why I never had a regular period ever. I now have a 10 year old daughter, and I feel like I don't know if I know how to tell her how to have a period or what to expect really. I just hope she doesn't have the issues I have. I will admit that not having a period for almost 20 years has been nice, but I think maybe it's caused more issues not being normal. I'm so sorry for the long post, but I've never really shared this story and wondered if anyone has had a similar story. As age up toward 50, I don't think I'll be having a period ever again due to menopause coming, but I've just had a strange life.
