I'm currently sitting in a hotel looking at the mayo clinic building where my brother is right now talking to a group of doctors who has broken the news he has stage 3 colon cancer and I am finding myself feeling terrified of what that news means not only for my brother but my whole family and how to convince my 20 and 30 something children to immediately get themselves checked and the possibility of what news we may receive. How to convince myself and family to make that appointment and face that fear of..bad news because it's so much easier to pretend or make excuses why it's not necessary or it can wait!I'm battling that very urge because not hearing bad news means nothing is wrong...but it may mean the difference of life or death but the process of dealing with news and treatment is exhausting and so much easier to wait one more day to make that call tomorrow and I don't know how to care and encourage my kids to get checked and deal with my brother who is dealing with it now and care for myself also...I'm not at all strong enough to carry it for everyone and myself at the same time. I'm terrified of the future now in ways just yesterday I didn't know I would ever think about and the possibility of hearing the same news about myself and what that means...cancer is what other people get..the older people..not myself or my healthy yg family...I learned today how wrong I have been to brush off the possibility and there's more time to do all that checking when I'm older..I'm 100% wrong and today is a new obstacle that I have to work hard to encourage my brother to overcome and the same time encourage my family to get checked..when yesterday I was blissfully unaware of what that test result was going to mean to the way I think and go forward with the information on treatment that will be the difference of life and death and the confusion of the results mean for not only my brother but the whole family
