This is nothing. If you're from an Hispanic background you know you get whooped all the time. My mom whooped me with belts, shoes, la chancla, and plastic clothes hangers mostly. Problem is when parents get out of hand and start beating their kids out of extreme anger. Also, problem is when they have anger issues and get out of control. Then you get things like parents beating you with anything including kitchen pots. Another problem is when you get older and they still hit you, because at that point that's too much and since you're older they hit you harder and it gets overboard. This whole thing ruins relationships and creates hate. And the problem with these types of parents is that they resort to this behavior and don't themselves learn to form a good relationship with their kids through communication. And also kids don't learn a valuable lesson on why they shouldn't do something so they don't grow. This is a result also of the way their own parents treated them and that's sad. I've experienced all of this. Now is they're a place for corporal punishment? Maybe. It just depends on what you mean by that. A slap to the hand on a child who don't understand through communication yet. In other cases? I don't know. I need to give it more thought. Preferably not. Another problem is that this hinders parents to learn good parenting skills because all they do is beat their kids.
