This work is done in such a deceptive manner that those who accept his guidance are unaware that they are under the direction and will of the evil one. Satan's special work in these last days is to take possession of men's minds, to corrupt their thinking, and to stir up their unholy passions. As free moral beings, people must control their thoughts, directing them in the right direction. There are few who believe that mankind has reached such a fallen state, so deeply hardened, and in such desperate opposition to God, as it really is. Therefore, the whole existence of the devil is oriented and developed against God and implicitly against the crown of His creation which is man. Since the suggestions and propositions of the devil seek unceasingly to affect us and turn us away from our trust in God, our only possibility of safety is to pay no attention to him. He transforms himself into an angel of light in order to accomplish his plans in such a way that we fail to discern his strategies. The more wavering we are, the more effective will be Satan's misleading influences upon us.Engaging in discussions and negotiations with him is dangerous. With every concession we make to him, the enemy will demand more. Our only possibility of being safe is to reject it promptly, even at the first temptation to disobedience. Through the merits of Christ, God has given us enough grace to resist Satan and be more than conquerors. Resistance means success. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4. Opposition must be determined and persistent. We will lose everything we have gained if we resist today, only to capitulate tomorrow.
