I've read Dawn's book and the book by Jennifer Sugar & Jill C. Nelson entitled John Holmes: A Life Measured In Inches. Holmes was described by an LAPD psychologist as being a sociopath. He used people and had no remorse for it. That was what the addiction to cocaine did to him. When he wasn't using it, people who knew him said that he was funny and goofy, the kind of person that you liked hanging around with. Bill Amerson was probably the only person who could somewhat control Holmes. Amerson could, to a degree, steer him away from the coke and get him to prioritize some things, but John was John. He never could conquer the addiction.
