Self-identification is a matter of choice that doesn't necessarily reflect the reality of people's behaviour, or respect the true purpose of a label. A person who is sexually active with both genders is, by definition, bisexual, even if they do not want to or cannot establish an emotional connection with the members of one of said genders. I find it bizarre that people go to such great lengths to engage in exercises of semantic muddling, when they could just say I'm bisexual but mostly attracted to this or that gender. It's quite simple and, quite frankly, it sounds more honest than pointless divagations about how unique and misunderstood you are because no one gets your true identity (they do, but don't see the need to waste time and energy mixing things up for the sake of self-martyrdom).
