While all of this is part of the problem, this is a much deeper issue than corrupt politicians. High schools push college so hard when half the kids don't know what job they want. Loans are normalized, no one teaches you alternative ways to afford school without going into debt. Colleges charge ridiculous rates for the most basic expenses. Schools require 4 years when it takes a handful of classes to actually learn the skills required for your goal career and degree. For the few people that choose trade schools and going straight to the work force, they are looked down on and treated as lesser than. Additional education is not everything - but you wouldn't know that by looking at the debt.

It was nighttime, the I-24 bridge between KY & IL was closed for repairs and the Brookport Bridge was the closest route home to IL after a long day of motorcycle riding around KY Lake - my wife & I still had on our shaded goggles so visibility was mostly what the headlight exposed. We were rolling along at highway speed, maybe 60mph, when a BIG YELLOW sign zipped past on the right, lots of words but all I caught was: Attention Motorcyclists - and that was it. Brenda punched me on the shoulder hollering, What did that sign say?. I dunno. Then we launched into the most harrowing ride we'd ever had up to that point in our riding years, and even still to this day. It was like some invisible hand just grabbed the front wheel and yanked the bike back & forth - NO amount of effort at the handlebar could counteract the invisible force. Brenda started screaming from behind me and I remembered her telling me about her nightmares of driving off bridges - I'm thinking, Please, God, don't let her do anything stupid. It occurred to me if I slowed down, things might get better, but that just seemed to give the invisible hand a stronger grip. Keep in mind, the darkness of the goggles blinded me as to what the road surface was made of so I had no idea what had taken control. At a slower pace we made wide and deep swings back & forth, eventually we crested the height of the bridge where I could see headlights at the far end - so all I had to do was hang on til I reached that point, or I thought. BUT NO! When we reached that point, there was a dog-leg in the direction of the exit and that was surfaced with the same evil material - so now it wasn't just a matter of hanging on, I had to negotiate a curve... We made it to the end of the journey and took a drive_way_like_exit immediately to the right. I could barely get the kickstand down before my body collapsed from the intense fear that shook me. It took a good 30min before I had the muscle control and coordination I needed to drive away. I curse that bridge and the engineer that designed it!!
