Scary that they let some of these things go on for 11 months until they decided they had enough evidence to bring a case.

I'm a hardcore true crime fan but I can't continue listening to this. I just can't. The poor girl suffered horrendously.

I think despite the advancements, I personally don't find deepfakes very inspiring simply because direct imitation is kind of like placing a glass ceiling at the human level, which just seems kinda benign compared to the goals of other branches of AI where we are attempting (and often succeeding) to create superhuman agents/results. I think the deepfake news anchor is a decent use-case, but still seems rooted in the aspect of imitating a specific person, which is the part that's kinda bland to me, since you know - we already have 'people'. The nature of this technology does seem prone to misuse and deception but I agree some positives will most likely come from derivatives of it, and just like the video implied even the aspect of deception is potentially a kind of pseudo-positive if it demonstrates a tangible example against blindly trusting everything online 'at face value'. I mean, for all I know this entire channel was generated, but I think the average person isn't at all on guard for that kind of possibility - and that's not even mentioning the AI in private labs.
